The town of Livermore, PA was torn down in the 1950s by the Army Corps
of Engineers. They began
work on a flood control project resulting in the Connemaugh Dam between New Alexandria and Saltsburg.
They bought all the property along the river, including several canal towns like Livermore and Bairdstown.
Any residents still living in the towns were then forced to vacate. The Army Corps of Engineers
then tore down all the buildings and backed the water up over the land. Many people belive
that George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead was filmed at this cemetary. This is not
correct as it was filmed in Evans City, PA
